New Release! Dethroning Crown by Lila Felix, plus an interview!

Hey y’all! Welcome to my tour stop for the book tour for author Lila Felix’s Dethroning Crown. This is my first time participating in another author’s book tour but I fell in love with the cover and title. Plus, Lila Felix will also be at the New Orlean’s book convention DitterCon with me. I thought this would be a great way to get to know her before we met! Lila is also from Louisiana so in honor of that, this interview will have only NOLA –inspired questions.

Lila:   First of all, thank you so much for being on the tour!
Jenna: You are so welcome! I'm very excited to be a part of it!

Jenna:     Have you lived in Louisiana your whole life?
Lila:        I was born in Baton Rouge at a hospital that my dad actually helped build. I lived in Denham Springs and Baton Rouge until I was sixteen when we moved to Los Angeles, California. What a change that was. It turned out that this Coonass girl was a fish out of water and when I was nineteen, I moved back on my own.
Jenna: You can take the girl out of Louisiana but you can't take Lousiana outta the girl. ;)

Jenna:       Where were you when Hurricane Katrina hit?
Lila:       When Katrina hit, my husband, kids, and I were all at home. We hunkered down in place. We were out of electricity for eleven days.
Jenna:    I love hearing everyone's Katrina story.
Jenna:       Chocolate Milk or a Café Au lait with your beignets?
Lila:         Café Au Lait, hands down, cher.

Jenna:       What are you dressing up as for Halloween?
Lila:        Nothing. We don’t really celebrate Halloween. But if we did, I would be one of the characters from American Horror Story, Freak Show.

Jenna:      What is your favorite flavor of SnoBalls?
Lila:        Blackberry with cream. All the time. If that’s out, wedding cake.
Jenna:   I will have to try blackberry with cream next time! I love wedding cake though, that's a classic. Also: Nectar with cream, Ice Cream with cream, and King Cake with cream. Can you tell I like cream?

Jenna:      What is your favorite food to eat while in NOLA?
Lila:           Willy May’s fried chicken.

Jenna:       If you were wandering Bourbon Street late at night, who would you rather run in to: Marcel or Klaus?
Lila:         Klaus, Klaus, and Klaus. Did I say Klaus?
Jenna:    Ah, I knew I'd like you!

I hope y'all enjoyed getting to know Lila better, I know I did! See below for the beautiful cover, stalking links, and summary!

Dethroning Crown

By Lila Felix
Release Date: October 10, 2014

Synopsis

Number ten is plastered on his team jersey and on his ego. In his own mind, Crown Sterling is the shit. He dates the prettiest women, he dominates on the soccer field, he pours money out of his pockets like it’s water. Until a debilitating knee injury puts him out of commission on and off the field. He’s sent to an isolated town in Louisiana to recoup, undergo physical therapy and heal. But it’s when you’re down that you find out who your real friends are, and what they value in you, if anything at all.
All Lyra wants out of life is peace and quiet. She grew up with a regular, everyday family. When she turned sixteen, rummaging through her grandmother’s hope chest in the attic, she discovered a secret that would turn her simple, normal life into a ball of chaos that revolved around her. But while she seems to face her fears head on in her career, she lives a life that’s secure and well hidden.
A new neighbor moved in next door and he’s decided that everyone needs to listen to his rap music, shattering Lyra’s quiet existence. Enraged, she stomps to the next townhouse over and who should open the door but a man whose good looks and charming smile knock her breathless.
How good looking? Just ask him.
How charming? He’ll tell you that too.
The king must be dethroned.
And a small town girl who’s been through hell is just the one to do it.

"Getting to Know You" Blog Hop

I’m participating in the Getting to Know You blog hop from April 18-April hosted by Kristina Perez and Rhiann Wynn-Nolet. This is for a really fun contest I’m participating in for my new YA.

  1. What’s the first thing you do when you begin writing for the day?
I read the last chapter of where I left off. I try to not to do too much editing and revising when I’m writing but I’d like to be put right back in the scene!

  1. Who’s the first writer who truly inspired you to become a writer?
That is a really hard one mainly because I don’t remember! I always loved writing, so it’s been something I’ve wanted since I was a little girl. I only wish I remember every book that influenced me back then, there were just so many!

  1. Did the final revision of your first book have the same first chapter it started with?
No, actually! I first started the book by dumping the reader in mid-scene but as revising went on, the beginning I have now just fit better. The reader is still jumping right into the action; just a little bit more is revealed.

  1. For your first book, which came first: major characters, plot or setting?
Characters!! It’s always been about the characters for me. They are what write the story for me. My next book is a NA and I already am *plotting* the plot and the characters are slowly coming together so that’s different for me!

  1. What’s the first word you want to roll off the tip of someone’s tongue when they think of your writing?
Ohh, that’s a tough one. Great voice? Wait, that’s two words!

Well, that was fun!! If you are participating in this blog hop, post below and I’ll be sure to check out your answers as well.

Gift Ideas for Book Lovers

Happy New Year! I know it’s been quiet on here lately but I have been SO busy! I have been out of town A LOT (my wanderlust is becoming a problem…) and I have been working on a new YA/NA romance that I can’t wait to share with you all! I promise I’ll be more connected as things settle down. I guiltily write this as one of my New Year’s Resolutions is to blog more. What are some of your resolutions? Share in the comments!

So, I know this may be a little late but maybe you want to bookmark this page for next year, or find something to buy with that gift card!

1.       FOR THE TECHY BOOKLOVER- Kindle. $69-$424. This is an obvious choice, which is why I put it first. Give the gift that allows your recipient to have millions of books at their fingertips (Some of are even FREE!). Oh, and it can play movies and games.

2.       FOR THE BEAUTY and BOOKLOVER- Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Polish strips in “Love Letter” Around $7.99. I love these Nail Polish strips that look like a book is written on your fingernails. I try to wear them to signings and conventions and always get a lot of compliments on them!

3.       FOR THE AUTHOR BOOKLOVER-  Swag. Varies. I always say that the way to my heart is though my books… So what better way to excite your published friends then with swag made from their book covers! I have had mini book charms made, book marks, magnets, temporary tattoos and other swag inspired by the Hurricane series. There are several swag makers. I recommend Cassie Chavez of Cassie’s Crafty Creations. (Find her on FB!)

4.       FOR THE WRITING BOOKLOVER- USB Typewriter.  $$$. Old school meets new school. Splurge on this traditional typewrite that allows you to hook up your iPad and allows every writer to feel like Ernest Hemmingway.

5.       FOR THE COFFEE LOVING BOOKLOVER- Mug. $5-$15. What better way to curl up with a book then to pair it with a nice cup of hot coffee or tea. This may not be the most original gift idea but there are tons of mugs out there with snarky books designs that you can choose uniquely for your recipient.  Some of my favorites are “I like big books and I cannot lie”, “Shh… I’m reading!” and “Keep calm and read on”.
